Having a professional headshot that makes you relatable is essential. And here in New Hampshire, everyone loves a little rustic touch — and this barnboard background is always a hit! Shedding the tie is always a good idea. Who doesn’t love a good business casual look?

Here’s a good example of why I always try to shoot headshots horizontally… because it gives you more options for how to use them! While it can be cropped square for most uses, the original headshot on the right is perfect for overlaying marketing text or a Call To Action right on your headshot… the result is always a clean, professional look.

Jesse called this one “The Mark Cuban.” I love it! We set out to make something more serious, edgy, high-stakes business-like. Nailed it!

When Jesse and I spoke about his work in real estate, we agreed that realtors are very connected people — often on the phone with clients and helping closing deals. And what better kind of headshot to go next to a call to action that says “Call Today” or “Book a Call.” It’s perfect!

This was the business headshot Jesse chose that was different then all the rest…. something more edgy, more storytelling in nature. Technically, this is called a “profile” portrait where the head is turned away just enough to catch the back eyelash. And by shortlighting it, meaning the light source is slightly behind the subject’s face, it adds that nice touch of drama. It’s cool in color… but even better in black and white!
