Hope is a Commercial Finance Professional with her own company and knows the value of having strong headshots. I’ve worked with Professionals from all industries, and every session always culminates in something unique.

After we chatted for a little while about the type of work she does and the places that she uses her headshots, we got to work creating a nice variety of images. I find it’s always so helpful to start with a plan and establish a shared vision.

Christine came in to the studio for headshots after she made a career move in mergers & acquisitions. She brought a strong variety of outfits that allowed us to dial in some very specific images for her, from business to business-casual to edgy to lifestyle. We did it all! And as with virtually all headshot sessions, we shot a few signature images with a nice clean white background, too.

One thing that really stood out to me from Christine’s set of headshots was how we were able to incorporate the hands into her headshots.

Fun fact:

Did you know — being able to see hands delivers an instant sense of trust? It’s true. It goes back to caveman days when we lived in fight or flight mode… if we couldn’t see a stranger’s hands, it could mean they had a weapon (run!). But when you can see someones hands, especially when they’re empty, it taps into our hardwiring about trustworthiness.

One element of a great headshot is to use the power of color harmony. Here, you can see the cream colors of the background and her sweater combine with her red hair really make this headshot look great! A great smile always helps, too!

The metal wall at the studio works for so many professions and desired impressions. This was one of the last headshots we made, and we both loved it right away.

We made this headshot by simply pulling the barnboard wall over the window. The barnboard wall ties nicely into Melanie’s work in the environmental field.

I love using the window to create a loop lighting pattern on the face - simply turning the nose toward the window to create a small directional shadow.

Spencer said he wanted a headshot that was a little dark and serious, so I knew we had to make a simple headshot using the Profile Lighting technique. This always look so cool, and it’s useful for so many professions.

A candid, brighter headshot is a must-have for most people. It’s nice to have that option for something a little lighter.

This is Gwena. Gwena is a creative graphic designer, and when we started to talk about her headshots we realized we both had the same vision — COLOR! This was the perfect time to use gels. Gels are a photographer’s light modifier tool. They’re essentially a colored transparent sheet that you put over your light source to change its color (and there’s no faster, easier way to do this than with the MagnetMod system). That’s why I shot this headshot session entirely with my Canon speedlites, a light I normally only use when I’m on location (weddings, senior pictures, families, etc.). The background patterns were made using the MagMask.

We made a really nice variety of headshots to introduce Gwena on her social media, website, and marketing materials.

Behind the Scenes | I love to see people’s reactions when they make a STAND OUT headshot in what seems like an ordinary setting. The image on the left was created with just two lights — a main light to the left and a hair light (overhead), with a silver reflector to create a little detail in the shadow side of his body.

When Esteban told me he wanted something that STANDS OUT I knew EXACTLY what we needed to do. We loved how this turned out.

When you’ve just had your hair cut and colored, it’s the PERFECT time to get new headshots! And when your wife asks you for new headshots… you say “I’ll see if I can fit you in.” Haha!

Chrystn get’s her hair colored by my friend Jen at Beauty on the Run. Usually it’s ME that begs HER to stand in for photos, but this time she asked me for headshots. And because it was her birthday, all the more reason to make new headshots.

Professional Headshots for Graduate Student at University of New Hampshire

When you’re in graduate school and you’re speaking at conferences and getting published, it’s a great idea to have professional headshots on deck! Sonja is a research assistant at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Sonja came in for headshots in the middle of October, so we were still able to get outside the studio for a few of her headshots. In fact, we can get outside pretty much anytime of year. As you’ll see below, the right know-how can convert ordinary scenery into a great backdrop!

“The entire process was smooth and easy. Chris was fantastic to work with from beginning to end. He answered all my questions on the phone beforehand, we were able to schedule an appointment within a week, and the session was super fun and easy. We even went outside for some improv work, and the outdoors headshots came out great! He was very helpful in helping me narrow down my favorites, and I received the final retouched photos after three days. The photos came out great, I’d definitely go back if and when I need to update my photos!”

Talk about the perfect look! This white on white look worked great for Shelly’s chaplain headshot. The pop of blue really stands out, too.

The clean white background is desirable in almost any corporate setting. The trick the white background is to properly expose it such that it doesn’t throw glare back into your lens. (I see this mistake made a lot where photographers just blast the background and throws it everything off, OR the background is “almost” pure white and it looks dingy against a white page or in a web browser)

Sometimes when you work in a large hospital or corporate setting, you need a headshot that is clean and simple. This is exactly what we made here. The warm creme tone goes perfectly with the blues in her shirt.

Did you know that deep down in our subconscious, we are wired to immediately “trust” someone when we can see their hands? It goes back to the ol’ caveman days when anyone could be carrying a weapon. Empty hands = friend, trust, safety. We joked about this, but Shelly knew this too!

Professional Headshots for New Hampshire Seacoast Realtor

Jesse: "I want headshots, but I don't want that generic studio look......"

Me: "Perfect! When would you like to come in!"

That's how I met Jesse when he called. I knew I was the right photographer for him; the LAST thing you want is a boring headshot that will just blend into the sea of boring old headshots.

Jesse just acquired his real estate license and is a realtor with Keller Williams in the Dover, New Hampshire area. He called up the studio last week, got him in this week, and now he's off and running with his marketing!

Here are a few of the headshots Jesse and I made. We made a nice variety with outdoor and indoor settings with different outfits so he can use them year round!
